EPFO UMANG App 2026: All Services, Login & Fixes

UMANG is the Government of India’s official app for public services, and EPFO’s mobile services run inside it. To use them you need an active UAN and the mobile number registered with EPFO. UMANG itself opens with your phone number and M-PIN, and the EPFO services inside it verify you with your UAN and an OTP.

Activating your UAN through a face scan is covered step by step in our face-scan activation guide. This page covers everything else EPFO offers on UMANG.

Three Different Checks, Three Different Jobs

Most people who get stuck on UMANG are entering the wrong credential at the wrong screen.

CredentialWhat it’s forWhere it comes from
M-PINOpening the UMANG appYou set it when you register on UMANG
OTPConfirming you before an EPFO service opensSent to the mobile number on your EPFO record
UAN passwordLogging in to the EPFO websitesSet when your UAN is activated

What this means in practice:

  • Changed phones but kept the same number? Your M-PIN still opens UMANG, and EPFO OTPs still reach you.
  • Changed your number? UMANG may open fine, but EPFO services won’t, because the OTP goes to the old number on your EPFO record.
  • Forgot your M-PIN? Reset it in UMANG. It has nothing to do with your EPFO password.

The Face Authentication Service Most People Miss

EPFO introduced three face-authentication services on UMANG, not one:

  1. UAN Allotment and Activation: creates a new UAN and activates it in one go.
  2. UAN Activation: activates a UAN you already have.
  3. Face Authentication of Already Activated UANs: for members whose UAN is already active.

Why the third one matters:

  • It fixes old data in your EPFO record. It verifies you against Aadhaar and updates your record with your Aadhaar photo and address.
  • It helps if your UAN was created years ago. If your employer created it with spelling or address errors, this is the self-service way to bring your record in line with Aadhaar.

You need two apps, not one. Install the AadhaarFaceRD app alongside UMANG before you start. UMANG starts the request, and AadhaarFaceRD carries out the face scan. If it’s missing, the scan won’t start.

Who can’t use this route: international workers, and citizens of Nepal and Bhutan, still get their UAN through their employer.

Check Your Employer Without Logging In Anywhere

Your passbook shows your contributions. UMANG can also show whether your employer is paying into EPFO at all.

  1. Find the establishment. Use Search Establishment with your company’s name to get its establishment ID.
  2. Pull the payment history. Open Get Remittance Details, enter that ID, and choose the financial year.
  3. Look for gaps. Check the months for missing or irregular payments.

When to use it:

  • Before joining a small company, to see whether it pays PF regularly.
  • When your own entries look patchy and you want to know whether it’s just your account or the whole company.

To check your own deposits month by month, follow our monthly PF check.

Pensioners: Two Services Worth Knowing

View Pension Passbook

  • Enter your PPO number and date of birth, then the OTP sent to your registered mobile.
  • It shows your latest pension credit.
  • You can download the full passbook by financial year, which helps when you’re filing income tax.

Download Pension Payment Order (EPS-95)

  • Banks and government offices often ask for your PPO.
  • A downloaded copy saves you asking your regional office for one.

Keep your PPO number saved on your phone. Both services need it.

Free, Official, and Who to Avoid

In June 2025, EPFO warned members about cyber cafés and fintech agents charging fees for services that are free. EPFO says these operators are not authorised and can put your personal and financial data at risk.

What EPFO says is free on its portal and on UMANG:

  • claim filing,
  • transfers,
  • KYC updates, and
  • grievances.

Rules to follow:

  • Download UMANG only from Google Play or the Apple App Store. Don’t install it from a link someone sends you.
  • Don’t pay anyone to file a claim or grievance for you. These are free, and you can do them yourself in the app.
  • Never read an EPFO OTP out to anyone. That includes someone who says they’re helping you.

Is EPFO Launching Its Own App?

A separate EPFO mobile app with UPI-based PF withdrawals has been reported, first for April 2026 and later as delayed and in testing. There’s no confirmed launch date.

Until EPFO announces it officially, UMANG remains the official mobile route for EPFO services. Treat any “EPFO app” from an unknown developer as suspicious.
